Penalty Stroke - Rules

 

In a hazard with a RED line/stake – ONE STROKE

OPTIONS:

1. You can play the ball from inside the hazard (if it's playable) with no penalty.

2. You can take two clubs lengths from where it entered (#3 – this means from the red line or the line between the red stakes) the

    hazard and drop the ball,

3. You may go as far back as you want (#2) BUT you must keep the point it entered the hazard between you and the hole and drop

    the ball (most people don’t execute this rule correctly),

4. Play from the previous spot (#1 – stroke and distance)

 

In a hazard with a YELLOW line/stake – ONE STROKE

OPTIONS:

1. You can play the ball from inside the hazard with no penalty (#1),

2. Play from the previous spot (#2 – stroke and distance)

3. Go as far back as you want (#3) BUT you must keep the point it entered the hazard between you and the hole and drop the ball.

 

Ball hit outside of the General Area (OB) marked by a WHITE line/stake (or LOST BALL NOT in a marked hazard) –

1. Play ball from original spot (ONE STROKE PLUS DISTANCE), or

2. Local Rule (E5) – find point where ball crossed line (or got lost). Take TWO CLUB lengths into the fairway, drop the ball and play

    your next shot (TWO STROKE penalty)

3. IF YOU PLAY A PROVISONAL BALL, YOU CANNOT USE THE LOCAL RULE

 

Ball is unplayable as it lies – one stroke penalty. Drop within two (2) club lengths and no nearer to the hole.

 

Playing the wrong ball – TWO STROKES and return to where you hit it

 

Causing the ball to move on practice swing

1. On Green – replace the ball with no penalty

2. One Tee while ball is teed up - retee the ball with no penalty

3. Anywhere else – replace with ONE STROKE penalty.
